'Fashion Start Up Advice | Growing Your Business & Brand | Emile Vidal Carr What\'s the fastest way to make it in fashion? I think that the fashion and the music industry are very similar in the sense that there are so many talented people but without real knowledge of how to push through the crowd. The key to this is knowing the business side of things. This is why a lot of artists have managers. A good manager can even make someone with no talent successful. How can I plan goals for my brand? If you ask me to set daily goals for myself. I can probably create a full list of things for the first three days and then start running out of steam. What I prefer to do is work in reverse and set a 10 year plan, 5 year plan and then a 1 year plan, after which I\'ll set monthly targets for that first year. How do I find a strategy that works for my brand? Identify which successful brand out there are doing something similar to what you are trying to achieve. Piggyback off what it is, that they are doing well until your brand finds its feet and creates its own defined strategy. What’s the best way for my brand to get noticed? Apart from sticking it on a celebrity, the best way to get noticed is creating a line with a specific brief, eg women with curvy hips, workwear with unique ergonomic features or dresses made in a fabric that doesn\'t stain. Get out of the idea that your brand is meant for everyone. Catering to a niche market helps give the brand more definition. Are there any things any secret tips for designers? Don\'t ignore the workwear market. When you think of starting a fashion brand, most people have dreams of being the next McQueen. Brands like Avirex (leather jackets for pilots & military) and Helly Hansen (clothes for yachtsmen) were initially started for the purpose of workwear. However over time they have developed into fashionable brands.
